That's right folks...we're back in business. After the failed attempt to buy the home here in CE (the house inspection revealed a serious mold problem in the attic, and several other deficiencies in build quality and lack of owner maintenance that could have potentially cost us the price of the house - and add to that, the day before the inspection the furnace "backfired" and caused soot damage to the entire house! So we backed out) and looking at 20+ homes, the house we made an offer on - then that offer was countered and we countered back and they accepted has ended in a contract! Hurrayyyyy!!!!!!!!!
Now all we have to get through is this home inspection and with the house being in excellent shape and completely redone on the inside (with the exception of the kitchen, but it's not that outdated and we are going to put in granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, that's all it really needs) and after having read the property disclosure in it's entirety, I doubt anything will crop up in the home inspection...anyhow, after all that, we are set to close on July 6th! It's prolonged because there are tenants in the home (the sellers moved to T...Te...that state down south where everything is bigger,) and they have a lease until July. And said tenants have treated the property extremely well. The fact that there are tenants in the home was actually pretty serendipitous for us because we have a lease here until July. Well our renewal is Aug. 1st but all that means is we give notice here July 1st and it gives us an entire month to move and make sure this place is spotless, blah blah blah.
So, who's gonna come out and help us move? Come on now, don't be shy, you know you want to.
I am not going to post a pic of the home or the town because there are too many freaks out there. So if you wanna get a peek at the new place you'll have to email me. All I will say is that it's near a few popular mid-coast places such as Popham Beach and Merrymeeting Bay. So whilst we won't be lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves crashing against the shore, nor will we be able to stand in our bedrooms here and look out at the ocean, we certainly won't be lacking any local scenery. The one photo I do have doesn't do it justice anyhow. We're going to see if it's ok if we take a few shots when Gareth and our broker head up for the home inspection sometime next week. Besides, when they listed it, there was still about 18 inches of snow on the ground and you really can't see much of the landscaping, etc. Thankfully the snow is melting.
I might add, well I find this interesting anyhow, that the home was only listed about 2 weeks ago. The FOR SALE sign hasn't even been posted yet and with the glut of houses on the market right now and the general stagnation of the real estate market, this was a real find for us. The home is in a great neighbourhood with no "through" streets (local traffic only) which means it's nice and quiet. Lots of walkers, bike riders and kids playing nearby.
I think one detail I left out when I was talking about it in my last post was the fact that the home has a mud-room. What's a mud-room you ask? Well if you live anywhere in the northeast where you are bound to get more than the occasional light snowfall, a mud-room is a handy thing to have. It's a place where you enter the house and you can kick off your boots, shake the snow/rain off of your jacket and get all the dirty/yucky/nasty stuff off before you actually go into the living areas of the home and your wife yells at you because you are tracking grit and mud and road slush all over her white carpets. Yeah, it has new white carpets downstairs. But if I can live with off-white furniture like we have now, I can live with nearly white carpets. Well, I hope.
So the mud-room is a HUGE deal for me because I am about sick to death of following Gareth and Zack around with a broom and mop. And in the summer with all the sand the kids track in from the beach, that's no picnic either.
And because I can't stand doing things at the last freaking minute I am going to get off my butt and go drag some boxes up from the basement and start packing knick-knacks and get a head-start on this. Moving is a huge pain in the you-know-what and I am just over it! I've moved more than 20 times in the last ten years. Once my super-sized bottom is firmly planted in the new place, don't be expecting me to move it any time soon!
