I was sitting in front of the computer (gee big shock there, eh?) sort of staring at the screen but not really focusing on what was in front of me early yesterday morning when the hubby walks up behind me, puts his arms around my neck, plants a sweet kiss on my cheek and asks what we're having for tea? (dinner). Caught up in the moment, and trying to answer his question, I blurted out; "The interwebs. There's a great recipe I want to try." The hubby stepped back and asked me if I wanted to try that one again, because as hungry as he was likely to be come tea time, he didn't think he had room for ALL OF THE INTERWEBS!
I shook off the fog and told him that we were having whatever I thought up at the last minute, but that "tomorrow (Sunday) night, we're having sirloin tips!" Saturday night's dinner consisted of pancakes, eggs, bacon and orange juice. Hey, I never said we did things the normal way around here.
So, about these sirloin tips. A few times a year I marinate some tips and they come out, just "OK"...nothing great, nothing to write home about and certainly nothing to blog about. I never do the same thing twice when it comes to the marinade. I've always tried to copy what I thought was in the marinade for the Cambridge Steak Tips at one of our favourite restaurants back in Cape Elizabeth, The Good Table. But Lisa, the owner, keeps her recipes under lock and key, despite all the goading from numerous fans of the tips, to share the ingredients. We haven't been to The Good Table in more than a year now and I'm seriously homesick for Cape just sitting here typing this.
Anyhow after many futile attempts to try and figure out what's in the marinade I turned to the Interwebs to try and find a recipe that sounded like it had some of the key ingredient's the Lisa's do. That's when I came upon this one. It not only sounded good, but I happened to have everything on hand and thought I'd try it.

"It took many experiments for this one. I have finally perfected a
marinade that will make your mouth thirst for more."
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup Italian-style salad dressing
- 2 teaspoons garlic pepper seasoning
- 1 cup barbeque sauce
- 2 pounds beef sirloin tip steaks
DIRECTIONS
- In a medium bowl, mix the Worcestershire sauce, Italian-style salad dressing, garlic pepper seasoning, and barbeque sauce. Place the meat in the marinade, and turn to coat. Cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat grill for high heat.
- Brush grill lightly with oil to prevent sticking. Place steaks on the grill, and discard marinade. Grill steaks 10 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness.

I deviated from the recipe only a tad. I only added 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce because I thought any more would make it too salty and overwhelming and I marinaded the tips for close to 20 hours.
I was totally prepared to brave the elements and place these babies on the grill until I stepped outside and saw this...(you can't see it in the picture, but when I snapped this the snow had just started to really fall and the temps dropped and the wind picked up!...
Griffy the brave, who usually goes outside for a little while every day (you know he has to keep up that steady diet of chipmunks and the stray mole or two!), even decided against a stroll...
Being that I am not a die-hard griller...you won't find me outside standing sentry over the grill in a squall or blizzard or when it's hotter than hell, I deciced to go ahead and broil them. Can I just say the smell, OH MY GOD the smell as these things were cooking was wonderful!
Straight out of the oven...
I made a tossed green salad to go along with them...
...and my oft-requested cheddar-sour cream mashed potatoes, and voila, dinner!
And again I say OH MY GOD! Not only do these tips smell wonderful whilst cooking, they taste amazing!!!! Such a simple recipe. Oh and they taste far better than I imagine the Interwebs would, any day of the week! YOU MUST MAKE THESE SIRLOIN TIPS! Go, right now, to the store and get the stuff. It's easy, and tasty and you will thank me! Go on now, what are you waiting for?
