No words to describe the area I live in, after Irene rolled through.
I tried to get out yesterday to run a few errands and quickly realized just how bad things were as a result of Hurricane Irene. We didn't lose power and our home isn't bordered by any mature trees, so I wrongly assumed that the surrounding area would not be ripped asunder by the outer bands of the hurricane that rolled through upstate New York.
This is the home behind ours...
We live along the Mohawk River and, well, I'll just show you the photos I took yesterday of an area around the locks along the river. The following photos are images I took.
If you look closely at this image, you can see the raging waters of the Mohawk washing along the side of the building at the front of the photo.
The next couple of images are of a beloved seasonal drive-in burger joint, Jumpin' Jacks, which is only about three miles away from where I live. We head there once every few weeks with friends and enjoy a burger, fries, and good times. I'm hoping next season, we'll be able return, but seeing this kind of devastation is heartbreaking.
The below image is an aerial shot taken on Monday. I am unsure who took it as it's being passed around various local sources. The right side of the photo shows JJ"s roof tops, and just about 2 blocks north is where Gaby attends tumbling and cheer classes. Both are maybe only three miles from our front door.
And this is Jumpin' Jacks today, after the water receded a bit...
There are simply no words to describe how shaken and devastated our community is...how devastated so many communities across the northeastern seaboard are. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you dealing with the wreckage that Irene left in her wake.
